Holiday E-Card Campaign:

Goal: Increase branding and client involvement with the product as well as find new magazine subscribers. Secondary goal was to drive people to the website.

Solution: Taking images from the publication's popular IT poster series that ran during the year, we dressed the characters up in holiday costumes and created e-cards. Users had the chance to choose from 6 different characters, backgrounds, and holiday music. The e-cards were animated with explosions, fun greetings, and other interactive features. They also had the company's logo prominately displayed and at the end of the card, recipients had the opportunity to subscibe to the magazine or send a card to their friend (or both).

Promotion:

  • Print ads driving people to the site
  • Online banner ads
  • Web content and micro-site for cards
  • Text ads in newsletters with link to site
  • Direct email campaign to current subscriber (e-card from the ComputerWorld editor)

Results:

  • The campaign ran from the end of November until January 1st.
  • 15% of those sending e-cards decided to subscribe to the magazine.
  • Numerous emails were received from users commenting on the "fun" aspect of the campaign.
  • Successful enough for the company to consider running the campaign again the following year.
